The goal of the Matching Service is to allow people to know who else is working on the same families so they can collaborate, further extend their research efforts, and perhaps make contact with distant and previously unknown relatives. If two people are signed up for the Matching Service, and one views a record (census or parish record) that the other person has already viewed, both people are notified by email, and each is given the other's email address.
- By signing up for the matching service, you agree to have your email address sent to others who have purchased the same record, and to potentially receive emails from those same customers.
- Only records that have been purchased qualify for the matching service.
- Matches will be checked for approximately daily, but an individual person is not likely to be inundated with emails. The more records you have bought, the more likelihood you have of a possible match with another researcher.
- Once you sign up and your initial match report is generated, only the records you view after that date will be automatically checked for matches, to avoid emailing you repeatedly about the same set of matches.
- You may see all of your matches at any time by logging in and clicking My Matches in the left menu.
- You can remove yourself from the Matching Service at any time by logging in and changing your changing your account settings under My Account (clear the checkbox next to Match My Records and click the blue Change Settings button). After that, your records will not be checked for matches against other researchers, until you sign up again for the service, at which point all records you have purchased since the date of your last match report will be checked against other researchers.
- It's free!
To start meeting your fellow researchers, log in, click My Account, click the checkbox next to Match My Records so that a check mark appears in the box, then click the blue Change Settings button.
